Where it all began
It Started With a Simple Question
**What am I actually putting on my skin?**
Somewhere along the way, life on our little hobby farm started changing the way I looked at the everyday things we use.
I was already trying to get back to basics — growing more of our own food, raising chickens, choosing whole ingredients when I could, and simply paying more attention to where things came from. Eventually, I started looking at the products we were using on our bodies, too.
Soap seemed like a good place to start.
So I learned how to make it myself.
What began as curiosity quickly became a bit of an obsession. I fell in love with the old-fashioned process of cold-process soapmaking — choosing the oils and butters, experimenting with clays and botanicals, creating new scents, and never quite knowing exactly how a finished batch would reveal itself when it was cut.
Before long, I had far more soap than one family could possibly use.
So I started giving it away.
Friends and family tried my bars and came back asking for more. They told me how much they enjoyed the way the soap felt, how their skin felt after using it, and which bars had become their favorites. That encouragement made me wonder if this little hobby of mine could become something more.
And that's how **Salt + Pasture Soap Co.** came to be.
The name reflects the two places that inspire so much of what I create — the water and the land, the coastal life and our little farm. It's a little rustic, a little coastal, and intentionally uncomplicated.
Today, I still make soap for the same reason I made that very first batch: because I like knowing what goes into the things my family and I use every day.
Every batch is cold-processed by hand in small quantities. I choose ingredients thoughtfully, source botanicals from small farms across the Southeast whenever possible, and create each bar with its own scent, color, texture, and personality.
Some are simple. Some are beautiful. Some don't turn out exactly the way I pictured them — and that's part of the fun.
No two batches are exactly alike, and I wouldn't want them to be.
Salt & Pasture wasn't born from a business plan. It grew from a hobby farm, a desire to live a little more intentionally, a kitchen full of soap, and the discovery of a creative outlet I absolutely love.
I'm still learning. I'm still experimenting. And I'm probably still making more soap than my family could ever use.
**I'm just happy I get to share some of it with you.**
